Tehuacán soft drink industry

v  “El Riego”
Located at the foot of the plateau of irrigation. In the middle of the seventeenth century was a wealth that supplied the extensive grounds of the estate of the same name, which was adjacent to the Auxiliary Board of St. Mary Coapan.
In the mid-nineteenth century it was bought by the family Mont. From this source is considered as the cradle of the bottling industry in Tehuacán, since in 1901 Joaquín Pita installed the first factory, which produced two thousand boxes of mineral water per year from the Diamond brand with the help of a steam engine.
A year later Mr. Pita was associated with Anacharsis Peralta Requena to produce brand the Red Cross. This company was sold in 1903 to Mr. Lucindo Carriles, who from 1924 joined forces with Joaquin Cordova to produce the brand Covadonga. In 1933, this source would of industrialize under of signature of Arturo and Andrés de la Llave Zaplana.
Today it is no longer a spring attraction for visitors who once came with the hope of finding health miraculous waters.


v  “San Lorenzo”

Since time immemorial, the spring was known as San Lorenzo Axoxopan (Ahuehuete) since its birth came precisely next to one of these ancient and majestic trees.
It is located about 7 km from Tehuacan, in the San Lorenzo Auxiliary Board Teotipilco.

Since the late nineteenth century the locals built a rustic house where people came to drink or fill jugs with this healing water. It was around 1938 when Francisco Andrade Balseca began bottling its tributaries. Shortly after Ramón González spot buy and establish the renowned San Lorenzo Springs. Currently Axoxopan the spring is exploited as important spa resort.



v  Garci-Crespo

It was discovered in 1920 in the Auxiliary Board of St. Nicholas Tetitzintla by José Garci-Crespo. Over time it exploded to turn it into what would later be the famous caves of Peñafiel and spring of the same name. The underground passageways were not covered by any artificial material. In spring 1948 the Garci-Crespo changed name to Penafiel.
Don José Garci-Crespo also acquired some land in the call Buenagua Station, where he set up nurseries located Garci-Crespo and another spring, which to this day serves as soft drink bottler.



v  “Peñafiel”

This spring exposes us that since 1445 the inhabitants of the Tehuacan Valley already aware of the healing properties of spring water, which is why Tehuacán is recognized worldwide for its rich hydromineral.
